Why I Love African Black Soap
Share
African Black Soap is one of those ingredients I really appreciate because it has such a long history of traditional use and it keeps skincare simple.
I’ve always believed that good skincare does not have to be complicated. That is one of the reasons African Black Soap fits so well with the way I create products for The Butter Babe.
Traditional African Black Soap has roots in West Africa and is commonly made with plant-based ingredients such as plantain skins, cocoa pods, natural oils, and other locally available ingredients. Because it is traditionally made in small batches, the exact ingredients can vary.
Why I Chose African Black Soap
I wanted a cleanser that could really clean the skin without turning skincare into a 10-step routine.
African Black Soap has a naturally deep-cleansing feel, but I also know that traditional black soap can sometimes feel strong on the skin. That is why I chose to make mine into a liquid cleanser and pair it with ingredients that help make the experience feel softer and more balanced.
My Liquid African Black Soap is made with a botanical tea of calendula and lavender, along with aloe vera.
I love calendula in skincare, and aloe is one of those ingredients I reach for again and again because of the comfortable feel it gives the skin.
Simple, Effective Cleansing
I like products that serve a real purpose, and that is exactly how I look at my Liquid African Black Soap.
It is there to cleanse away dirt, oil, and everyday buildup without making your routine feel complicated.
For the face, I always recommend starting slowly and paying attention to how your skin feels. You do not need to scrub hard or over-cleanse. A gentle cleanse is enough.
After cleansing, follow with a moisturizer to help keep the skin feeling soft and comfortable.
For the body, it can be used just like a traditional liquid cleanser.
Why It Belongs in The Butter Babe Line
The Butter Babe started with my love of rich natural butters and oils, but healthy-looking skin also starts with cleansing.
That is why African Black Soap has a place in my line.
I want my products to feel thoughtful, useful, and uncomplicated. I choose ingredients because I believe they add something worthwhile to the finished product, not just because they sound impressive on a label.
African Black Soap fits that philosophy perfectly.
It is traditional, simple, and purposeful.
And while I will always believe that butter is better, every good skincare routine has to start with clean skin.
